The Sacred Art of Splitting Wood
I am a guy who likes change. I like to try new things but most of all I like things to not be repetitive. I find I get bored when things go in to predictable a pattern. I also like to move around a lot. I don't do still well. It is interesting how the scriptures tell us to meditate on God's word and how we should be in a constant attitude of prayer. These are hard things for me to do because of the way I am wired, but I think they are hard to in our culture. There is one activity in my life that I have found helps me meditate on the things of God. It is splitting wood. I have a very repetitive motion and sometimes a loud draining sound and I dwell on scripture, God's character, and even sing worship songs when the ipod is on. It is a good time to sing because not many people can hear me over the splitter.
Today, go find something to do that does not require much effort and dwell on the rich truths of God. I think I am going to go split some wood.
