Hmm. Interesting survey. I honestly think part of why people think the Bible is difficult to understand goes back to the fact that we aren't taught ancient history very well, so we can read what the bible says, but we have a killer of a time deciphering the context. A couple years ago, when I was homeschooling Jamison, we were going through the "Usbourn Encylopedia of World History" (I think that's what it's called,) and it was honestly revelational to me. I mean, it's one thing to read that Isreal was at war with the Philistines. It's another thing to look at pictures of decked-out warriors using animal hides as flotation devices and swimming to shore, or to realize that the Philistines had iron weapons when most of Mesopotamia relied on softer metals, or that nobody really knew where they came from--they just showed up and started kicking everyone's butt. (My vote is that they were displaced Cretans, but who knows?) Those Philistines were scary! Reply to this

Or maybe it was the Central Americans. I don't remember for sure. Anyhow, the lost tribe of Israel somehow showed up in the Americas, according to Joseph Smith. Reply to this
